In every company, a handful of variables actually determine the trajectory - and most of them sit below the waterline, unmeasured by the standard model and unread by the standard advisor. The visible metrics are the effect; the determinants are the cause. The value that seems to appear or vanish 'unexpectedly' was decided by determinants that were there all along, out of view.
A determinant that stays hidden shapes the outcome by default; a determinant brought into view can be shaped on purpose. Naming that the determinative variables exist, and that they live below the visible surface, is the thesis. Surfacing which ones bind in a given company - that is the work, and it stays in the work.
